British XC Hopton

The 3rd round of the British XC Series saw the series return to Shropshire for a 2nd year at a venue local to TORQ HQ, Hopton Wood, on what was arguably the riders’ favourite course of the 2012 series.

The race utitlised the expertly crafted red route, that has been created by local bike shop, Pearce Cycles, in Hopton Woods.  Conditions were perfect, with beautiful sunshine all weekend and a course that was running incredibly fast; featuring a long, steep climb before a flowing trail centre style descent back down to the arena.

First off on the day were the female riders, with Joanne Clay and Jessie Roberts in the Elite female race. Both got off to a great start, with Jo leading the field out of the arena and onto the main climb.  It was Jessie Roberts who had the team ride of the day, battling with TORQ fuelled, Certini riders, Maddie Horton.  Jessie eventually crossed the line in 4th place, well ahead of 5th place and on flying form; a result that put her on her first elite national series podium of the season. Joanne had a closer battle with TORQ fuelled, Scott Contessa rider, Rebecca Preece, and, after a sprint finish, Joanne crossed the line a credible 9th place in a stacked field.

Next up were the elite men, with Chris Andrews and Lee Westwood . With Lee achieving a career best result here in 2012, and Chris also putting in a storming result, the riders were set for a good day in the saddle.  With a very strong field and on a tough course, Chris was the first rider home in 24th with Lee shortly behind in 30th. TORQ Fuelled Nick Craig put in a storming result to take 12th.

Thank you to Rob Barker for the images.

Next up, the team headed onto the penultimate round of the series in Margam Park, South Wales.

As always, a big thank you to all the team sponsors, without them we wouldn’t be able to do what we do.
