Cerist Triathlon

After a sucessfull history at the Cerist Triathlon, could I once again win this event?

Cerist 2012 bike leg

Cerist cycle leg -

A week out from the British Standard Distance Triathlon Championships, I decided I needed to push the limits and get some serious efforts in, so I entered the Cerist Triathlon in Machynlleth. This event is very established and has been run for more than 12 years in various guises.

With a last minute entry, I have to admit I didn’t really look at the details of the course assuming it would be the same as last year. How wrong could I be??? With long road works, the event organiser was forced to change the route. The new route consisted of a shorter flatter bike and a longer hilly run (this was the original course from when the event was first organised). A bit of surprise, as I was expecting a solid bike leg with lots of climbing and then a flat 5k run!

Transition nicely laid out for a speedy exit

Anyway, all was good in the end with nearly a 2 minute margin between me and 2nd place (with a finish time of 1hr 23secs). I had the fastest swim, fastest bike and 7th fastest run, so I was pretty pleased with that - the performance indicating that I was certainly heading in the right direction with training.

After the awards ceremony, the race director confirmed that he had beaten my time previously with a 59.59 back in 2000. So with that bit of motivation I will certainly be back next year…
