TORQ Performance Racing Team recently concluded the 2010 race season in style where they feel most familliar – on top of the podium…
A new event to the racing calendar, the KONA Oktoberfest was the TORQ team’s final race of 2010 before they hung up their wheels for a quick break before the onslaught of winter training. Held at Bristol’s Ashton Court, a course renowned for it’s super-fast technical singletrack was described by Sion O’Boyle as ‘a gruelling flat out effort’. The event had a laid back atmosphere and a Bavarian theme, with beer served by the steiner, Oompha music blaring and race officials dressed in traditional Bavarian attire. With 5 months to recover from the race the team aimed to go out hard.
Despite the race being held in October, a month normally associated with rain and cold temperatures, the weather came good and the 700 riders who took to the course were blessed with sunshine and dusty trails. The TORQ mixed team consisted of Anthony and Sion O’Boyle along with James Lister and national veteran female champion Lydia Gould. The team battled it out over the 8-hour event and after a chaotic Le Mans start, lead the race from the first lap.
Taking home the win by nearly a whole lap our team were presented with there 1-litre Steins (German 1-litre Beer Glasses) which I am sure will get plenty of use during the off season. Filled with TORQ recovery no doubt!
