Maddy Moore, Melanie Sneddon and Janet Birkmyre plan for world domination in the Team Pursuit.
A couple of months before the World Masters Track Championships, the three southern based TORQ trackies started putting plan “Team Pursuit” into practise. This plan was based around four training sessions, which, for Mel involved very complicated, near military planning for her childcare arrangements, to allow the team just two hours together. Their ever patient coach, Chris Davies, was always there nudging the girls into shape and often looking dismayed at their seemingly infinite capacity to talk, but despite everything, during the last practise session, they managed to ride two race efforts that were well within their previous World Record time, so they left for the Championships feeling positive.
Here is Maddy’s account of the race:
“Up in Manchester the TORQ Team lined up and couldn’t have looked more awesome. We topped the qualifiers and went into the final wanting to set a new World Record. We gave it our all, but, alas our legs were not quite there on the day. However, we did enough to win by a clear margin and stood proudly on the top step of the podium as not just the fastest, but also the best turned out team in the world!”
