Nestled between the infamous Col du Tourmalet and Col de Peyresourde in the beautiful Hautes-Pyrénées, the Col d’Aspin has a long and illustrious history with the Tour de France, first featuring in the race as part of the inaugural mountain stage (a mere 326km from Luchon to Bayonne dubbed the Circle of Death) in 1910. 

Never has the term ‘no pain no gain’ been more deserved. 

At 2,236m elevation, the Passo Giau is most famous for its regular inclusion in the Giro d’Italia and for amateurs it’s the fearsome 6th climb in the Maratona dles Dolomites sportive. 

We’ve had the pleasure of visiting Switzerland a few times now and the Swiss Alps are certainly a must for any avid mountain loving cyclist. 

Rising 1,607 metres above the Mediterranean, the Col de Turini may not be the highest pass in the Alpes-Maritimes but at 24.3 kilometres in length, starting from Sospel, it’s a climb that definitely needs to be ridden with respect. 

Without question the Col du Tourmalet is one the all time greats of cycling, first featuring in the 1910 Tour de France and with over 80 appearances since make it amongst the very oldest, and the most frequently used, climb in the history of the race. 

Home to many of the most mythical climbs in Tour de France history, the French Pyrénées are a wonderland of beauty and exploration. 

Perched high above the glistening coastline of the Côte d’Azur in southeast France, the Col de la Madone may have never featured in the Tour de France but that hasn’t stopped it becoming an international icon made famous by the many pros that would regularly frequent its slopes to test their form against the clock.
