TORQ owner Matt Hart is helping the inspirational William Tan get from Land’s End to John o’Groats in just 9 days on his hand bike with friends Peter and Alan. They are also going the pretty way, averaging over 100 miles per day with quite a few hills to get over. All proceeds go to Bloodwise to fight blood cancer.
A little shell-shocked from the previous day and with very little sleep, the team left their hotel a little later than usual (8am) and arrived in their hotel in Tain by 17:30, the earliest landing yet. This was due to a significantly lower mileage (86 miles) and less climbing (3,300ft) than previous stages.
There were also no mechanicals, which was a first. Thank goodness there weren’t, because the team had to cope with a very strong and bitter northerly wind and driving rain again! It was grim. Tain at 5:30pm has similar light levels to one would expect in the winter, not June!
Very few photos were taken, which is testament to everyone’s reluctance to get their phones wet. Today is the final stage to John o’Groats and again the wind is forecast from the north along with very heavy rain. This hasn’t just been a challenge, it has been a war of attrition. The team are going to struggle to recommend the experience to anyone!
