Endurance Life Swim Series Stage 1

Here at TORQ we are always pleased to support events. We recently provided some of our Rhubarb and Custard gels for the Endurance Life Wild Swim Series. Here is the report from organiser James Heraty.

The Endurancelife Wild Swim Series showcases the very best of the South West Estuaries with the Erme, Dart and Helford and offers those who crave challenges, adventure and meaningful experiences to enjoy watching the world go pass with a unique prospective

Over 100 swimmers took to the water for the inaugural start to the Wild Swim Series took during the Endurancelife Festival. As the swim series title suggests the environment is untamed and the Erme Estuary proves to be a little too wide with huge waves hitting the proposed start point. Plan B soon swung into action with new start and a slightly shortly swim.

The route went with the tide and took the swimmers over a wide sandy bay clear bay before turning inland and heading up the estuary to the finish. A leading kayak guided the swimmers up river ensuring everyone stuck to the deep water channel which weaved its way up the river.
The water temperature was a refreshing 11.3 degrees which ensured every welcomed the compulsory wetsuit ruling. There was a real mix of swimmers and they all agreed the untouched scenic wooded banks of the Flete Estate. A food station on Pamflete beach provided a welcome energy boost with Torq gels, the official nutrition sponsor of the Wild Swim Series.

The editor of H2open Magazine Simon Griffiths was the first to finish and said “I enjoyed speeding through the beautiful wooded valley. On the finish I was handed a hot mug of soup with slice of buttered (wholemeal) bread and a biscuit; something, I think, we should campaign to have at the end of every swim.”

Endurancelife and the Wild Swim Series are supporting the essential work of the Marine Conservation Society. The MCS champions the need for marine wildlife protection, sustainable fisheries and clean seas and beaches and WSS participants are strongly encouraged to engage with the Societies current campaigns.
