This year was the 11th edition of the Pivot Twentyfour12 and once again it was hosted at the premier former World Cup course at Newnham Park in Plymouth. TORQ have entered teams into this event since its conception and our 4-man male 12-hour team has never been beaten.
Sadly, due to injuries, we didn’t have a huge pick of TORQ athletes this year, but just about managed to pull together a mixed team, albeit a mixed team of exceptional athletes. Alex Welburn, Joe Griffiths, Jake Phelps and Carla Haines couldn’t actually beat the 4-man teams, could they? Could they retain their unbeaten title and beat the men, despite being a mixed team? Well, they didn’t, but they came pretty close. Alex put almost a minute lead into the entire field on his first lap and they were neck and neck with the leading all-male team for the entire race – and finished just 5 minutes off the pace, meaning that they couldn’t get out on a final lap to battle it out to the line.
That said, the TORQ team scored a hugely convincing win over the other mixed teams in the category they were supposed to be competing in! Great job guys.
A big thank you to all our sponsors without whom, we wouldn’t be able to do what we do:
