Whilst re-building from injury, Eleanor couldn’t resist competing in the Castle Howard Standard Distance Triathlon, where she narrowly missed out on the podium. Instead of a report Eleanor kindly provided some bullet point insights into the race…

As I was still making some progress regarding my ongoing injuries, I wasn’t run fit, but I wanted to see where things were at
I had really enjoyed this race in the past, and it’s on my doorstep, so it was a fun day out
The bike course of the event suited my strengths, as it was rolling, and so I was happy to take the fastest bike split and come in 2nd off the bike – not far behind super swimmer Hannah Drewett
There was a water temperature of 24 degrees, and so wetsuits were optional. I decided to try out the Huub Swim Skin. I enjoyed wearing it, and whilst I didn’t swim as fast as others in wetsuits, it was good not to overheat on the long uphill run up to T1
The event was really well organised and great for spectators and families
There was some close racing at the front of the Women’s race, with the eventual winner Emma Deary and my training buddy Suzie Richards coming through on the run
For now, I need to keep working through the rehab, and I plan to race next at the Stoke Elite race on September 24th, before building towards some Middle Distance Open Triathlon (MDOT) 70.3 races in the autumn
