Janet Birkmyre chalks up another derny paced win at the Reading Grand Prix.
The Reading Grand Prix has established itself as a high profile event in the domestic calendar. The event hosts a round of the National Sprinters League and the National Endurance League, alongside a well-timed warm up for the Elite Women’s National Derny Championships. On a scorching hot day, Jan, the reigning National Derny Paced Champion, cruised through the heats to qualify for the final, where there was a quality field. However, when Jan, who was paced by Graham Bristow, attacked with 10 laps on the board, no one could follow. Jan said “those last 10 laps were really hard”. She went on to say “I was close to my limit when, with four to go, we had to lift the pace again. But it was a great race and I was so proud to win wearing the National Champion’s jersey.”
The National Derny Championships will take place at the Olympic velodrome on 20 August 2016.
