The Omnium Series #1 was held at the historic Herne Hill Velodrome and there was no keeping Jan Birkmyre off the top step of the Podium.
The first round of the Elite women’s National Omnium Series for the 2016 season kicked off at the Herne Hill Velodrome this weekend and a record field of 34 entries suggests the series will be very well supported this year. Jan, who is the defending Series Champion from 2015, was consistently strong across all of the five disciplines that make up the Omnium; she won the pursuit and was second in the Time Triall and Scratch race. A fourth place in the sprint meant that Jan went into the final event with a four point lead over her closest rival and by the end of the points race she managed to extend this lead to win by six points.
Brilliant result, Jan!
The next round will be held at the Newport Velodrome on Saturday 4th June.
