This was the second race of the Open Water season for Guy Giles and although he was a little aprehensive about the event, due to it being in sea conditions, we feel it turned out pretty well.

Personally, I feel this is my least favourite Open Water ‘venue’ – the sea – solely because of the salt water and the taste it leaves in your mouth! This year, the course had been modified to a two lap afair, rather than one, so this meant that we would swim with and against the current twice during the race, which was something I needed to take into account when planning my approach. 

After my success two weekends before at the River Arun, I was feeling slightly more confident in myself as I had now got used to my new custom made HUUB Archimedes suit (which is fantastic) after doing a few training sessions in the local lake.

As we prepared to enter the water, the sea was relatively calm and was a pleasant 16 degrees Celsius! The race unfolded much the same as my previous race and like before, I stuck with my quick start tactic to open up an early gap. I managed to maintain and also increase this lead throughout the duration of the race and finished in a time of 47.26 to take 1st place overall, securing yet another Team TORQ podium spot. 

It was also good to meet the head of one of our sponsors, Dave Bursey of Swans goggles at the race – glad to have done his brand proud whilst he was there!
