I really wanted to win this race, as over the last 5 years, I have only won the Southend 10k once and come second the last 4 times to the same runner! So this was an opportunity to claim back my title!
I had a flyer of a start and tried to run away from the the rest of the field from the off, and that’s what I did. I ran the first 3 miles at under 4.50 pace and passed 5k in 14.58.
Coming back, the wind in my face along the seafront slowed me slightly, however, I was on target for a great finish. After a very fast and furious race, I came in 1st place with a time of 30:58, thus, once a gain, being crowned Club Champion of the Southend 10k.
It seems like I can always run under 31mins these days, and I know I need to work down to where I’m running 28mins!
