Two weeks after Sally Ford’s 1st place win at the Ultimate Trails 110k in the beautiful Lakedistrict, she was on the start line for the Laugavegur Ultra in Iceland.
Here’s Sally’s account of the race:
“This was another tough race, with big climbs and icy river crossings, but the most amazing scenery I’ve had the pleasure of running in – which all helped to take the mind off the racing. Steaming rocks, lava fields, glacial rivers and snow covered summits were all there to be run across and tackled – the natural beauty of such an amazing country was very apparent!
This event wasn’t one of my main targets for this year, so a more leisurely approach could be taken. Indeed a super opportunity to just enjoy the landscapes and soak up the scenery! I was the 9th woman home and finished first in my age category, which I was still pretty happy about. I used mainly gels on this one, but also enjoyed the Pineapple Chews and made the most of a Dark Choc and Orange Zest SNAQ Bar as a delicious breakfast alternative for the 4am bus trip to the start.”
