Nicolas Durin is the 2008 French Masters MTB XCO, and over the last 5 years, he has frequently placed in the top 5 in France, and at the 2013 Xterra World Championships in Maui, he finished 2nd in his Age Group.
In September this year, in Sardinia, Italy, Nicolas realised his ambitions by winning the overall Age Group in the final, thus also taking the number 1 spot in the Overall World Ranking.
Nicolas exited the water after the 1500m swim in 23min:30sec, then proceeded to pass the rest of the competitors on the 31km MTB leg, in 1hr 17min; he then started the run in first place, but after the first lap, one of his competitors passed him and retook the lead. Nicolas regained his 1st place position with 4kms to go and finished the off-road run in 39min:45sec, so finishing the race in a total race time of 2hr:22min:54sec.
Nicolas’s performance was very strong, and he managed to gain 3rd fastest bike split – to include the Professional field. If Nicolas was racing as a professional, this achievement would have ranked him 25th in the World.
